Parksville BC Activities for Any Season

Each year between March and June, the Brant, or Canada Geese, migrate through the area, and Parksville hosts the Brant Festival.  In June and July, go crabbing on foot, in the waist-deep waters at Low Tide.

Summer family events, and much more.  From June to September, Bumper Boats in North Parksville are a great way to cool off on a hot summer day.  The Craig Street Night Market opens on Tuesday nights, for a huge selection of incredible food, and local businesses and artisans.  At the Parksville Kinsmen Park, you will find a huge playground, complete with water park area, beach access, concession stand, arena, Skateboard Park, and playing fields.  This park hosts all kinds of   the year, including a huge Canada Day celebration, car shows, and sporting events.

During the fall and winter months, Parksville remains a very temperate region; temperatures rarely drop below O° Celsius (32° Fahrenheit).  The Tanglewood development is very quiet, and an excellent escape for some quiet and solitude after a long work week in-town.  During the winter, drive right up; enjoy curling up with a glass of wine in front of the gas fire place; and explore the local holiday craft fairs, fine dining restaurants, spas, swimming pools, and shopping centres.  Just 20 minutes from Nanaimo’s Woodgrove Shopping Center and Rutherford Mall, making it an excellent base for a holiday shopping trips.   Both shopping centers have a movie theater and some casual dining options, as well as lots of shopping- many stores not available anywhere else on the island.

One attraction not to be missed on your trip to PARKSVILLE, is a short drive away at Coombs’ Old Country Market. Take the island highway into town, and take a left on the Alberni Highway, then carry on about 12 minutes. Here you will be greeted by the goats on the roof, and will find eclectic  Shopping (bead store, collectibles, souvenirs, clothing, eco-shopping, produce store) as well as the Old Country Market and Restaurant, where the food is worth the wait, and kid’s meals come with a free ice cream cone, and a choice of over 30 flavours.    They also have a huge in-house bakery, where you must try the fresh-baked breads, pastries and cookies, and if not that, one of their many gluten-free options.   They also offer a huge variety of imported foods, from all over the world, including Italy, Mexico, South Africa, and the UK.

Some of the island’s best golf courses are within a 30minute drive of the property.  The community of Qualicum Beach is just 15 minutes away, along the scenic Route 19AOceanside, and home to the beautiful Ravensong Aquatic Center.   Take a day trip to Nanaimo (20 minute drive south), Victoria (2 hour drive south) or the Comox Valley (1 hour drive north).  To access Pacific Rim National Park, fishing charters, unspoiled wilderness, and pristine lakes and rivers; keep driving past Coombs, on the Alberni Highway (Hwy 4), where you will find Cathedral Grove Old Growth Forest, and Cameron Lake, (30-40 min. drive West),Port Alberni (50 min drive West) and Tofino and Ucluelet (3 hour drive West).   Tofino is home to the world renowned Long Beach, where beachcombers and surfers come together to enjoy miles and miles of sandy coastline.

Within an approximate two hour scenic drive in either direction, visit the charming capital city of Victoria to the south, stopping in Nanaimo, “The Harbour City”, Chemainus, famous for its murals and Duncan, the “City of Totems”.  Head to the wild and rugged West Coast with the world famous Long Beach and its quaint fishing villages of Tofino and Ucluelet. Go north to the beautiful Comox Valley and smaller islands of Denman and Hornby and the mountain bike and hiking trails of Mt Washington.
